If you’re interested in hiring me for any of the services below, please email me with a summary of your project at hitchhiker

[AT] moderndayhitchhiker [DOT] com. I can provide all materials in a variety of formats, including all Microsoft Office and Adobe products. I write up to 5,000 words per day, and have a very quick turnaround for most projects.

Articles / Reviews

Like many authors, I have a talent for writing more than just fiction. I’m interested and intrigued by many, many things, leading to articles on a wide variety of subjects. In most cases, I include relevant photos with my articles, as well as links to outside resources for interested readers to get more information.

Here are some posts on this blog for just a few:

Gisting [Top]

What is gisting? Giving someone the ‘gist’ of something.

It’s technically defined as “the art of concisely reducing complex material to its absolute essence for intelligence reporting purposes.” Now, clearly, I’m not an intelligence professional, but gisting can be used by virtually any busy person to provide them with the same benefits.

A gister reviews a document and provides salient points – sometimes with sub-points, often without – in a separate document to someone who doesn’t have time to read the main document.

Two different types of gisting are prevalent: the in-depth gist, wherein the gister knows a great deal about the subject, and provides an analysis of the ramifications or impact of the document, and the top-level gist, where the gister takes only the data from the document and summarizes it, without analysis.

Having someone summarize documents for you can take some getting used to, but you’ll quickly find it an invaluable tool in getting to the heart of the matter. I can provide gisted summaries in many formats, include PowerPoint, Word, PDF, or virtually any other type of format.

Ephemera [Top]

Have a writing project you just can’t classify? I’m open to the unusual, provided it’s not illegal, unethical or otherwise going to land one or the other of us in hot water or, you know, jail. Feel free to send me an email with your ideas, and I’ll let you know a) if I’m interested, and b) how much I’ll charge.
